How Can a Stair Lift Help You?
People come to us for different reasons. Some have had a fall and don’t want it to happen again. Some have found the stairs harder each year without any single cause. Some are here on behalf of a parent, often against the clock.
Whatever’s brought you here, it starts the same way: a free home survey, no obligation, no pressure and an answer built around your staircase and your budget.
A stairlift from us gives you:
- A smooth, comfortable ride
- Simple controls
- A safer way between floors
- The freedom to stay in your own home without needing someone there to help
- Peace of mind, for you and your family
Our engineers are DBS-checked and know your staircase inside out by the time they fit anything. The rail attaches to the stairs, not the wall, so there’s no damage to worry about if you rent or you’re in a period property.

As an endorsed Which? Trusted Trader, we’ve been independently assessed against Which’s? standards for customer service and workmanship. It’s an outside check on the way we work, so you can book with confidence rather than taking our word for it.

What our customers say

Absolutely brilliant service. Joe came out to fit a stairlift for us and we couldn't have asked for a better service. Fairly priced and quick. It's taken such a weight off our minds for our grandmother to be able to return home. Thank you so much for such a brilliant service - absolutely excellent!

Senior Stairlifts were helpful and caring. No hard sell like some other companies, they really do put the customer first. Everything was explained and true to their word, they came to fit the stairlift right on time. The chap who fitted it worked so fast, cleaned up after himself and took his time showing me how to work it... I can't thank them enough. I would recommend people to try this firm first. They would not regret it.

The most superb pair of fellas without any pressure whatsoever. Satisfied every need I ever wanted. I would not hesitate in recommending this company to anybody who ever had any stairlift needs.

An absolute pleasure to do business with from start to finish. No pressure at all and friendly, competent, diligent helpfulness permeates the whole organisation. Our stairlift installation was designed and installed with care and concern, it tones in better than we ever thought it would with the staircase and operates smoothly and quietly. A big thankyou to you all and congratulations, your company really is a breath of fresh air.

I was most impressed with the speed with which the company were able to come & repair my stair lift, especially considering the time of year. Carl the Engineer, turned up exactly when he said he would & carried out the required work very efficiently & cleanly (& I am quite fussy!) I would certainly use the company again & recommend them to others.

Having a complicated stair case I had spoken to a number of different companies before finding Senior Stair lifts. As soon as I started to explain the situation the response was so reassuring, immediately taking the initiative and finding a work around. It was a huge relief. From ordering to installing everything was seamless. Darren the engineer was amazing with my parents and so patient at explaining how things worked. All rubbish was taken away and everything was left immaculate. Thank you so much.
17th October 2025A smooth journey to your perfect stairlift: Our process
Getting a stairlift shouldn’t be complicated. We make it simple, straightforward and stress-free, every time. Here’s what you can expect from us:
Step 1 – Getting to know you: A friendly first chat where we listen to what you need.
Step 2 – A free home survey: We arrange for one of our stairlift experts to visit your home, measure your staircase and talk through the options that suit you. Leaving you with a clear quote. No jargon, no pressure.
Step 2b – Made to fit: If you decide to go ahead with a curved stairlift, we carry out a technical survey of your staircase where we scan your staircase to ensure a bespoke, exact fit.
Step 3 – Fitting and demonstration: We book an installation date that suits you. One of our friendly engineers fits your new stairlift, tidies up afterwards, and shows you exactly how to use it, making sure you’re happy before we leave.
Step 4 – Ongoing support and maintenance: We’re here whenever you need us, long after installation day. With up to 5 years warranty available.
How much do stairlifts cost?
There’s no single answer, and anyone who gives you one before seeing your stairs is guessing. Cost depends on the type of stairlift, whether your staircase is straight or curved, and what features you need.
That’s why we don’t publish price lists. Every staircase is different, so every quote is different. Our engineer surveys your stairs for free, then gives you one accurate figure, not a ballpark that turns out to be wrong once they see your home.

What should I be looking for when buying a stairlift?
At Senior Stairlifts, we have a thorough installation method to fit your stair case so that it both looks flush and operates as effectively as possible. Although many people mistakenly believe that stairlifts attach to the wall, in reality, they actually fasten to the stair treads. This means that the installation doesn’t require a nearby wall, so don’t worry about the size or condition of the wall adjacent to your staircase.
During the installation, the stairlift will simply be mounted onto a track, which will run the length of the staircase. Rails for stairlifts are secured to the stairs using screws. The bottoms of the rails are fitted with brackets, which are aligned and screwed to the stairs.
Since stairlifts are not fitted to the wall, it means the installation process is far easier, quicker, and less hassle-free for everyone involved. It also means that there is a possibility for temporary stairlifts if for whatever reason you won’t be able to use the stairs for a set – but impermanent – period, perhaps due to an injury or illness. Conveniently, this means that when it comes to removing and replacing them, there is zero mess left behind and your wall remains in fantastic condition as a result.
You can take advantage of our rental stairlifts if you or a family member is in need of a temporary stairlift – just request a callback from our team today. We understand that installing a stairlift can be a serious investment for people to consider, so hiring one on a temporary basis may be more ideal for you.
Need a short-term mobility solution for your stairs? Rent one of our curved or straight stairlifts through our rental service – request a quote today, and we’ll have your home fitted with a reliable solution in no time.
With regular servicing. Expect up to ten years. Every new lift comes from a trusted manufacturer with a 2 year warranty, that you can extend up to 5 years. How long yours lasts comes down to how often it’s used, the build quality, and how well its maintained.
When you buy a stairlift from us, we also include:
- High-quality products with leading UK manufacturers
- A 36-month warranty on brand-new lifts (with the option to extend)
- 24/7 support line and optional servicing packages
As you’d expect, no matter which stairlift you choose with us, it is essential to carry out regular checks and maintenance to keep it in good working condition.
To get the most from your stairlift, get your stairlift serviced by Senior Stairlifts, even if it hasn’t been installed by us. Arrange for one of our experienced engineers to schedule a home visit to ensure your stairlift remains in top condition.
Here at Senior Stairlifts, our expert team of installers aim to fit and install each lift within a day. This means we won’t be disturbing your day-to-day home life more than is absolutely necessary – and, your freedom and independence will be restored promptly.
It usually takes just two to three hours to install a straight stairlift in your home. If you like, we can take the final measurements at your home, and cut the rail outside, before attaching it to your steps. Alternatively, we can arrive with the rail already cut to the length of your stairs. Either way, the installation time shouldn’t be too long or intrusive.
Stairlifts can be quickly and easily installed on any floor to improve your mobility inside the home. And, as a general rule of thumb, the simpler the staircase layout, the cheaper the installation will likely be. If you’d like to discuss costs with us, just give us a call on our 24/7 phone line and you’re guaranteed to talk to one of our engineers who’d be happy to answer any questions.
For curved stairlifts, which are manufactured with more of a custom-fit to match the specific bends of your stairs, installing the rail pieces requires technical precision. Depending on the length and complexity of the staircase, installing a curved model typically takes a bit longer – you can expect between 4-5 hours for a completed curved stairlift installation.
One of the great things about getting a stairlift fitted in your home is that, not only is it a fast and secure process, but it also saves you plenty of time in the long run.
This is a common question that we get asked by customers looking to install a stairlift in their home or in their parents’ home. We understand that you don’t want to go gliding up and down your stairs super fast, but instead want to make the journey in good time and without worry that your position is unstable.
In terms of speed, most stairlifts travel slowly. You can expect the chair to travel to a maximum of 0.34 mph (or 0.15 metres per second). This is the market average and, to better describe it, equivalent to a relatively slow walking pace. If you’d like to dial the speed down further, this is also possible. Each of our stairlifts come with two remotes for easy control: one for the user, and another for the person operating the stairlift – if needed.
For curved models, the speed may be further reduced on bends to make the journey as pleasant as possible.
At Senior Stairlifts, you’ll always be in for a gentle and secure ride. Our technicians adhere to the safest regulations, discussing these with you when carrying out the installation in your home. Our seats also come fitted with an adjustable seatbelt and safety sensors to automatically stop the lift should there be obstruction along the stairs.
If you would like to know more about the speeds of our incredible range of stairlift products, feel free to get in touch with us and we can answer any more of your questions. Our phone lines are available day and night for your convenience, and our team of engineers welcome your call.
If you are looking to buy a stairlift for yourself or someone you know, you may also be asking the question: ‘how much weight can a stairlift take?’
Well, most stairlifts have a weight capacity of 300 pounds (136 kg), though some have capacities of 350 to 400 pounds. Considering the average weight of a male in England is 188.3 pounds (85.4 kg) and the average weight of a female in the UK is 159 pounds (72.1 kg), we’re confident that a stairlift can take the weight of any individual.
While most standard stairlifts can take up to 300 lbs, you can find other options that have higher weight capacities, but a standard weight capacity stairlift should be enough for anyone interested in a mobility solution for them.
Depending on the model that you choose, more weight can be accommodated through the XL versions that we offer at Senior Stairlifts. For example, our high-quality Handicare models come in XL and XXL versions that offer additional weight limits of 25 and 31 stone respectively.
Are stairlifts safe to use?
Yes, stairlifts are designed with safety as a top priority. They come equipped with various safety features such as seat belts, safety sensors to detect obstructions, and backup batteries in case of a power outage. All of our stairlifts meet safety regulations, so you can rest assured you’re in safe hands.
Straight stairlifts are the most common option. As you’d expect, these stairlifts are designed for your standard staircase that has no bends. Meanwhile, for those with a curved staircase or a midway landing that changes the direction of the stairs, purpose-built curved stairlifts are available.
At Senior Stairlifts, we offer a bespoke stairlift solution no matter the structural layout of your home. With years of experience under our belts, we’ll be able to quote an installation for even the most awkward of spaces. It’s important to us that, no matter the shape of the stairlift required, our customers are able to move freely throughout their homes with a solution that fits seamlessly into the unique character of the home interior.
Request a callback today to speak with our expert team who can help you discover what type of stairlift is ideal for your needs.
Yes, stairlifts are suitable for individuals with disabilities, including those who use mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walkers. Stairlifts offer a practical and secure solution for individuals with restricted mobility to access the stairs independently.
There are various types of stairlifts that can be installed on a narrow staircase, but it’s important to ensure that the stairs are wide enough to accommodate the lift safely. Typically, a minimum width of 73cm is required for most stairlift models.
Stairlifts generally require minimal maintenance. Regular cleaning and inspections of the track, seat, and safety features are recommended to keep the stairlift in good working condition. Here at Senior Stairlifts, we offer a full maintenance and repair service, giving you peace of mind that we’ll always be around to check on your lift.
Yes, stairlifts can be rented on a short-term basis at your convenience, which can be a more affordable option for those who require temporary support, such as after an injury or during a recovery period. We can come out to you and install a rental stairlift when it best suits you, ensuring a quick fit and removal once you’re finished with it. Often, we can even get a rental stairlift for you the next working day.
Absolutely! We understand that power outages can occur unexpectedly. That’s why our stairlifts are equipped with internal batteries, allowing you to continue using them even during a power cut. You can have peace of mind knowing that you won’t be stranded on the stairs and can safely and comfortably navigate between floors until the power is restored. Our stairlifts are designed to provide convenience and reliability, ensuring you can rely on them whenever you need them most.
Our dedicated support team is available to assist you whenever you need us. Whether you have questions, or concerns, or require technical assistance, simply reach out to us, and we will promptly address your needs. Our friendly and knowledgeable team members are well-equipped to provide the support you require and guide you through any troubleshooting steps over the phone.
- In the event that a more hands-on approach is necessary, our experienced technicians can visit your home to diagnose and resolve any issues you may be facing. We strive to minimise any disruption to your daily life, so you can rest easy knowing that we will work efficiently to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
If at any point a replacement stair lift is required, our team will work diligently to arrange a swift solution. We understand that your mobility is of utmost importance, and we will do everything we can to make sure that you have access to a functioning stairlift as quickly as possible.
Almost always, yes. Straight or curved, we can fit the right lift to your staircase.
For trickier layouts we create bespoke fittings, and our custom curved models suit spiral and awkward staircases just as well as a standard one.
The rail attaches to the stairs, not the wall, so there’s no damage to make good, which matters if you rent or live in a period property.
