Shopping for a reconditioned stairlift can be a little bit different from purchasing a new stairlift so it’s important that you know what to look for when buying a reconditioned stairlift before you buy.
What Is A Reconditioned Stairlift?
A reconditioned stairlift is a stairlift that has been used and owned before but has been reconditioned to a ‘like new’ condition. When someone no longer needs a stairlift they may sell it or donate it to a company who then may recondition the stairlift so it can be used again, or break down the components and use them as spare parts.
At Senior Stairlifts, we offer a buy-back service for old and unwanted lifts that we have fitted. We can offer you a paid removal service if you’re not one of our customers. Either way we will come and take your old lift and rail away and put the stairs back to a normal setting. We then take your old stairlift back to our warehouse to recondition them or use their old parts. All of our reconditioned stairlifts undergo rigorous testing to ensure your safety.
A reconditioned stairlift works exactly the same as a brand-new one. We repair or replace anything that might need replacing, like the seat or motor, to ensure that the stairlift is working just like brand-new.

Are Reconditioned Stairlifts Safe?
Reconditioned stairlifts are completely safe. Here at Senior Stairlifts, your safety is our absolute top priority and we don’t sell any stairlifts that we are not 100% happy with.
When we recondition our stairlifts we check every element of the stairlift and replace any parts that we feel need replacing and anything else we are not happy with to put it back to a good standard. We will also fully clean the stairlift before sending it out to any of our customers to ensure hygiene reasons.
All of our stairlifts are put through rigorous testing, whether they are brand new or reconditioned. We have very high safety and quality standards here at Senior Stairlifts and if a stairlift doesn’t pass our testing, or if we are simply not happy with it, we don’t sell it.

What To Look For When Buying A Reconditioned Stairlifts?
When looking for a new stairlift there are a few things you need to take into consideration, especially if you are looking for a reconditioned stairlift.
Reconditioned stairlifts, unlike new ones, are subject to availability, so we can’t always guarantee what will be in stock. Additionally, they may have fewer customization options, such as powered footplates or a choice of upholstery colours, since these features cannot always be modified in reconditioned models.
You need to know exactly what to look for when you’re exploring reconditioned stairlifts. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
The type of stairlift you need is very important. There are different types of stairlifts you can buy depending on your staircase. You need to know if you need a straight stairlift or a curved stairlift. A straight stair lift follows a straight track up the stairs.
A curved stairlift is designed to follow the turns of your staircase, whether at the top, bottom or along the way. This helps free up space at the base and top of the stairs, making it a great option for homes with limited room or doorways that need to stay clear.
You can measure your staircase before you start looking for a stairlift. You don’t need to know the exact measurements of stairlift if you want to find reconditioned stairlifts but it can help us possibly get you a closer quote over the phone. Whereas brand-new stairlifts can be built to fit your staircase, reconditioned stairlifts don’t have the same wiggle room.
If you are capable, you can measure your staircase when looking for a stairlift, as we may be able to help you over the phone before having an engineer visit. However, if it is a curved stairlift we will have to have an engineer come and measure the angles of your staircase and their bends.
There are 6 different models of reconditioned stairlifts that we offer to suit each different need and requirement. Have a look at our reconditioned stairlift range.
The Costs Of A Reconditioned Stairlift
Reconditioned stairlifts are the cheaper alternative to buying a new stairlift. Our reconditioned stairlifts are no older than 2 years old and come with a 2 year warranty as well. So you’re probably wondering, what is the price for a reconditioned stairlift?
At Senior Stairlifts, we charge a competitive price starting from £1500 for a reconditioned stairlift. However, there will be numerous factors to determine the final cost of your stairlift.
If you have a complex staircase with lots of bends, twists, or landings then this will impact the cost of your stairlift. This is because the rail that the stairlift will ride on needs to be measured and manufactured bespoke to your staircase. With a straight staircase, measuring and cutting a rail to fit is not as complicated as it is to measure the intricacies of a set of stairs with bends in it.
Where Should I Get My Reconditioned Stairlift From?
It’s important to do some research before diving into buying a stairlift as it can be a great investment, even if reconditioned, and an excellent tool to help better your mobility. There are a lot of companies out there that are not as good as they seem. It is important to look at customer testimonials and reviews to see genuine past experiences.
- Look at company reviews: Looking at a company’s reviews can speak a lot about how they operate and treat people. Do they have a lot of good or bad reviews, a common mistake or error they are making? or are they excellent and have lots of praise?
- See if they operate in your area: How close to you are they? It is important to check service areas to see if getting to you is going to be a few hours, or even days. Also, if they charge based on mileage and where you are.
- Was it easy to contact them: When you contact a company, did they respond quickly and professionally? Did they treat you with respect? There are multiple ways to determine the difference between a professional and an unprofessional company?
- Did they offer fair prices: When you received the quote for your lift, is it what you expected? Is it along the average prices that we mentioned? If you’re unsure you can always get more quotes to compare.
