How Do I Choose a Stairlift?

You may find that researching stairlifts is overwhelming or confusing. There are many different models, brands, and features available, making it difficult to determine which option is right for you.

Our friendly team will always help you in making the right decision and choosing what’s right for you. But it’s always good to start with an idea of what you may want.

The first factor is whether you have a straight or curved staircase; a lot of models are strictly curved or straight, due to the rails they run on. A straight staircase is a staircase that runs directly up from one floor to another floor with no landings or bends in between. A curved staircase may have bends or turns, or landings throughout, which means you will need a curved stairlift as the rail will have to fit the exact bends and angles of the staircase. Once you figure this out, you can start looking at straight stairlifts or curved stairlift models.

Next, it would be good to get an idea of the stair lift cost. Stairlifts can be costly investments; however, we offer used stairlifts for sale.

  • A new straight stairlift can start from around £2,300
  • A new curved stairlift can start from around £4,500
  • A reconditioned stairlift can start from around £1,500

However, if you want to go for a new stairlift, or need a curved one and are worried about your budget coming into play, we do offer stairlift finance too.

Reconditioned stairlift prices are cheaper as the stair lift has already been lightly used.

Stairlifts also come with many different features, but our friendly team will be able to help you choose the best option for your needs and wants.

What is the average cost of a stair lift in 2025?

Finding the average cost of a stair lift is tricky; there is no set cost for a stairlift because each one needs to be customised to fit the specific staircase in your home, and the measurements of your staircase. However, we can provide the starting cost for each type of stairlift that we offer. Below we have the average prices in the UK that each will start from.

A straight stairlift starts from £2,300

A curved stairlift starts from £4,500

A reconditioned stairlift starts from £1,500

It’s important to note that they begin from these prices, as there are multiple factors that will determine the total cost of your stairlift.

Senior Stairlifts is a trusted nationwide provider, serving customers across the UK. We specialise in high-quality refurbished stair lifts, each backed by a standard 2-year warranty for your peace of mind. Let us help you find the perfect solution tailored to your home and mobility needs.

Many companies do offer stairlift rental, as it may seem like a cheaper option. However, here at Senior Stairlifts, we have found that it’s not the case. It appears there are a lot more hidden costs in a stairlift rental.

Firstly, you will have to pay for the installation of your stair lift hire, which is commonly known as the installation fee. This can range from £300 to £400. Then, you will have to pay your weekly rental fee, which could range from £25 to £30 a week.

This will be under a contract for a certain number of months or years; however, if you’re looking to end the contract early or no longer need the stair lift, it may cost you more to end it early.

We found it would be cheaper for our customers to buy a reconditioned stairlift, and then we can buy it back if you no longer need it.

Yes, we specialise in narrow stairlifts; the width matters when planning a stairlift, and we know this is important. Modern innovation has come a long way, and certain manufacturers have risen to the challenge. We offer two models which our customers tend to go towards when choosing a stairlift for narrow stairs.

  • The Flow X – As slim as 610mm and folds up to 340mm
  • The Platinum Ultimate – Is as slim as 610mm and folds up to 361mm

These stairlifts can come at an extra cost, depending on the features and manufacturing cost.

All of our stairlifts come with a 2-Year warranty, even our used stairlifts. This shows that we have complete trust in all the products we are providing, and if you are looking for further support, we offer an extended 3-year warranty, which includes annual servicing, battery replacement, callouts and repairs.

Give our friendly team a call today to enquire about your extended warranty.

If you have a stairlift for sale, we can offer a buy-back service depending on the model and age of your lift. If we’re not able to offer you a buy-back we can sometimes do a free-of-charge removal or a paid removal.

If you’re considering a stair lift for your home or a loved one, you likely have questions about pricing, installation, and available options. Whether you’re looking for a cost-effective stairlift solution, comparing straight vs. curved stairlift prices, or exploring stair lift rental or purchase options, this FAQ section covers everything you need to know. From used and reconditioned stair lifts to tailored solutions for seniors and those with limited mobility, we’ve compiled the most common questions to help you make an informed decision.
